Twenty-one years ago the Bilingual Office of the Los Angeles Unified School District applied for and received from the Federal government a “seed grant” to offer an new concept in education which they called at the time a Two-Way Bilingual Immersion Program.

Then they needed to find 2 schools willing to take on the challenge. The principal at Grand View in 1990, Becky Clough, bravely decided her school was up to the challenge and recruited two teachers to begin the program. And so, Sra. Rosie Gonzalez and I began the program with 2 kindergarten classrooms.
Pero necesitaban buscar 2 escuelas que estaban dispuestas tomar este reto. El director de Grand View en 1990, Becky Clough, valientemente decidió que su escuela estaba preparada para este reto. Entonces, 2 maestras, Rosie Gonzalez y su servidora, empezamos el programa con 2 salones de Kindergarten.
In the years that followed our program here has been under threats both internal and external, made more intense by the passage of proposition 227, an anti – bilingual initiative.
En los siguientes año, el programa ha sufrido amenazas interntas y externas, intensificadas por la acepatació de la proposición de 227, una iniciativa anti- bilingue.
Despite these pressures, our teachers have for twenty years provided an excellent education curriculum in 2 languages and have always gone the extra mile to actively support the program and keep it alive.
Apesar de estos obstaculos, nuestros maestras han proveido por 20 años una excelente educación en 2 idiomas y siempre se han esforzado por apoyar activamente el programa y mantenerlo vivo.
